This session is only for Creative Mentors on The Mighty Creatives’ Creative Mentoring Pool.

In response to the Creative Mentoring Support Survey, we have worked hard to craft a training programme that responds to the needs of the Creative Mentors. We hope you find the sessions inspiring.

This is part two of our training programme: The Art of Trauma Informed Practice, working alongside Jo Stockdale to explore key aspects of our Creative Mentoring Role.

What can I expect from this session?

Join us and Jo Stockdale from Well Within Reach to explore how we can manage the beginnings and endings with our children and young people safely and in a supportive way. We know that many children and young people who are in care and in need have perhaps not experienced well managed endings. It’s vital that we ensure we manage these well within our Creative Mentoring work.

In this session you will explore:

  • The importance of ‘good beginnings’ and ‘good goodbyes’
  • How to carefully manage these from the very beginning of your relationship with them.

It is easy to inadvertently cause harm to a young person’s emotional experience if we do not manage endings in a healthy way, so we will learn about how to keep your young people, and yourself, emotionally secure throughout this process.

We hope by the end of the session, you will also have learned to consider your own relationship with the ending of your time spent supporting your mentees so, by being emotionally prepared yourself, you are in a position to better support your young people as this potentially fragile time.
This has the potential to help repair ruptures around what endings mean, helping these children to re-write their relationships with endings and their capacity to flourish in spite of them, instead of merely ‘coping’ with them.
