Come and celebrate the young people who have been a part of the Rutland Virtual School’s DfE Creative Mentoring Project!

This event aims to showcase the creative work of all the young people who have been working with Creative Mentors, as part of the DfE (Department for Education) funded project that Rutland Virtual School has been involved in. We would love as many people as possible who have been involved along the way to join us in recognising the hard work of everyone involved in a fun day of special activities.

Lunch/light refreshments will be included in the day, so please let us know of any dietary requirements.

All young people must be accompanied by a responsible and supporting adult as part of their attendance.

The day will consist of:

  • Welcome from The Mighty Creatives and Rutland Virtual School
  • Three 1-hour long creative workshops led by experienced art practitioners Samantha Peberdy, Dean Leivers and Mary Bonam
  • A chance to explore all the Creative Mentee’s work through a curated exhibition
  • A presentation ceremony for all young people who have participated in the project so far

More information about some of our workshop artists:

Samantha Jayne Peberdy is an emerging artist based in Leicester, she loves to paint expressively with vibrant colours. She is currently bringing her paintings to life through immersive installations, exploring the power of scale and the transformation of spaces.

In addition to her artistic practice, Samantha is a creative mentor with The Mighty Creatives, where she supports young people in Leicester through one-on-one mentoring. She also leads a variety of workshops for all ages across the East Midlands, collaborating with different organisations to inspire creativity in her community.

Dean Leivers is an East Midlands based fine art photographer/creative practitioner.
After gaining an undergraduate degree at University College Falmouth in 2008 he has worked extensively as a freelance artist and educator. He’s motivated to investigate the world and his experience in it through photography. Dean is currently undertaking the delivery of large-scale project work, primarily in schools. He leads analogue photography workshops which utilise mindfulness techniques and approaches that are part of larger mindfulness curriculum activities aimed at young people between the ages of 3-18. He is also in the early stages of a photographic landscape project based around coastal areas of the UK.
