I can honestly say being on the youth board has helped tremendously with my personal development. But more than that, it’s fun and meaningful”

This is how one of our Youth Board members at The Mighty Creatives described their experience. We’re now looking for new members aged 16-25 to join, so if you’re interested in a similar journey, passionate about having your voice heard, fighting for social justice and transforming the lives of children and young people through creativity and the arts across the East Midlands, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now!

What are the benefits of being part of our Youth Board?

What we can promise is that we will try our best to create an environment that helps you:
  • Develop your skills by gaining invaluable knowledge, skills and experiences to help you towards your next steps in your education, employment, and training.
  • Access creative, cultural, and professional development opportunities
  • Receive regular talks from professional experts across the region from a variety of disciplines to share skills, ask questions, network, and receive advice from the real experts.
  • Make new friends and connect with like-minded children and young people across the region
  • Gain vital application and interview skills by sitting on staff interview panels for new positions and grant applications.
  • Not just that but also build networks within the arts, youth, and voluntary sectors
  • And you also be able to have opportunities to represent TMC at events delivered across the region and much more.

You will be doing all of that while helping other young people like you and contributing to positive social change on issues you care about!

What do you do as a Youth Board member?

Actually, it is quite simple. This will not take much of your time; all you have to do is dedicate two hours each month to our regular meetings. These meetings will mostly be online and will allow you to meet the rest of the Youth Board members and The Mighty Creatives team, share your voice, discuss recent updates, plan activities and events, and much more.

If you are still hesitating, we think you need to listen more from our youth board members:

If you’ve never been on a youth board, or if the idea of it feels intimidating, I get it. I was there too. But what I want you to know is this: it’s not as formal or as scary as it might seem. Being part of a youth board isn’t about titles or qualifications, it’s about having a voice. It’s about making sure that your perspective, and the perspective of others like you, is heard. It’s about amplifying the voices of young people, especially those who feel like they don’t have the opportunity to speak up.”
