Boundaries matter in any professional role, but when the basis of that role is a nurturing relationship with a traumatised young person, managing them is no easy task, because the practice requires us to be vulnerable ourselves.

This session explores the importance of boundaries in the Creative Mentoring relationship, for ourselves, and for our mentees who, while pushing against them, are really asking us to prove they can trust us to implement those boundaries.

Drawing on our shared experiences and reflections, we will strengthen our ‘boundary-readiness’ by looking more deeply at:

• The risks, as well as the rewards, of inviting a young person to emotionally invest in us, especially when we struggle to establish or manage our boundaries properly
• The importance of recognising own emotional needs within the relationship, as well as those of our young people, with self-awareness and self-compassion
• How to establish and manage the boundaries of the Creative Mentor role, in ways which are sensitive to the needs of both ourselves, as well as our mentee
