What does arts and culture mean?
When we talk about arts and culture, we really mean anything creative that helps enrich our city. Music, art, filmmaking, dance, drama, poetry, design etc!
What is the Collective/Alliance?
The Alliance is a group of many different arts and culture groups from the surrounding area, unified under the aim of improving arts and culture for the people of Peterborough. The Collective are a youth board who will work alongside the Alliance.
What difference does the Collective make?
We work to create tangible change in Peterborough, improving arts and culture for everyone. Our commitments may help you understand a little more about our aims:
- Every child and young person is represented in Peterborough’s cultural ecology.
- There is visible action, rather than just words.
- We are environmentally conscious in our actions.
- We empower emerging artists and creatives in Peterborough.
- We champion children and young people in decisions about their city’s arts and culture.
- We celebrate our ever-changing city.
We are also focused on practical action. We are currently planning work alongside a young artist in Peterborough, to deliver a project at a local secondary school. The Collective and the artist plan to meet with a small group of older students at the school, empowering them as leaders to help deliver an arts project to younger students – all the while showing how the arts is an exciting and viable career.
What is classed as Peterborough and the surrounding area?
Our priority for applications is for young people from Peterborough, which may include Yaxley, Castor, Eye, Newborough etc.
However, anyone who is really passionate about improving arts and culture in Peterborough is very welcome to apply, even if they live outside the city. As long as you are able to make it to regular meetings in Peterborough, we welcome your application.
What skills are you looking for?
Anything and everything! No matter your special skills, we’d love to hear your input. However, we are particularly looking for those with experience in admin/logistical support (i.e., risk assessments, safeguarding), technology (websites, marketing), social media management and finance/budgeting.
How often will the Collective meet?
Initially, we’re looking to meet twice a month, while we get to know each other, usually with one in person meeting, and one online. However, once projects are up and running, we may move to once a month.
Will I get paid?
Payment is currently £30 (sessions using last two hours).
Interested applicants can apply through the google form linked https://forms.gle/weXVnewPx3jvxUbH9 or on the Alliance website. We accept applications in written, video or audio form.
How will the application process work?
We are committed to a rolling recruitment process. Once you get in touch with us, we will try to get back to you as soon as possible to set up an online/face to face meeting.
What is it like to actually do the job?
“It such a kind, open and supportive community where young people’s voices are placed at the forefront of discussions. Taking on a leadership role has been so wonderful for my confidence, and I get to make a difference to my community at the same time!” – Cerys, Collective member
“Working as a part of the Collective has given me the confidence to believe that my ideas are not as crazy as I may think. I have been able to work alongside a whole bunch of really interesting and amazing people, beginning to build my network ready for when I finish my degree!” – Emilia, Collective member
What are the benefits?
This is a great opportunity to begin networking with different organisations from both in and outside of Peterborough, as well as develop knowledge of our city’s arts and culture. It will allow for the development of leadership skills, as well as providing a fantastic introduction to those looking for this kind of work as a career.
Furthermore, due to our connections with the Peterborough Alliance, we are able to offer perks such as free theatre tickets!
