Message from Craft Council – 29th January 2026

Following a precautionary product recall by Hobbycraft, we have been advised that the Giant Box of Craft provided as part of the Let’s Craft initiative should no longer be used. This recall applies to all Giant Box of Craft products and is being undertaken in coordination with Trading Standards after independent testing identified traces of asbestos in a limited number of samples of the sand contained within the box. There is no evidence of any injury or harm.

Our guidance is that the boxes should no longer be used and should be kept out of reach of children. Full instructions on safe handling and disposal are available on our website at https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/recall or through Hobbycraft’s Customer Services team on 0330 026 1400.

We worked with with Crafts Council, Hobbycraft and other regional partners across the country, to help distribute 20,000 craft packs directly into the hands of children.

Creativity can sometimes be seen as low priority. Amid a cost-of-living crisis, it is under even more pressure as millions of families are being pushed into poverty. However, creative expression and craft can provide children with a lifeline, hours of happiness and a simple way to relieve pressure, using their own brilliant imaginations and inherent creativity.

The reality is that many children don’t have access to basic materials at home. That’s where Let’s Craft can help.
