SO Festival 2019

One of the UK’s leading outdoor cultural festivals is engaging young people in its weekend-long activities as part of a drive to nurture creative talent.

SO Festival 2019 takes place over three days from August 30 to September 1 – with scores of performances from some great artists from the UK and mainland Europe. On the Friday the festival centres on the Lincolnshire resort of Mablethorpe before moving to Tower Gardens in neighbouring Skegness on the Saturday and Sunday.

All the events are free and family-focused with many having a distinctly European flavour, thanks to the influence of Danish artistic director Jens Frimann Hansen and his colleagues at theatre company Helsingør Teater – renowned in Nordic Europe for their staging of the Passage Festival.

Organised by the Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture, premier arts and leisure providers in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, the main festival funding comes from Arts Council England and East Lindsey District Council.

However, thanks to The Mighty Creatives and its relationship with Magna Vitae’s community arm, funding has been provided, via the Cultural Lab, for an Activity Zone that has the sole aim of encouraging young people to co-produce and present arts activities for all ages to watch, and take part in.

The Mighty Creatives and Lincs Wind Farm Ltd have funded the Cultural Lab project, which supports schools in a whole range of cultural activities, along and around the east coast.
