The Mighty Creatives Welcomes Mayor of Krefeld in Celebration of International Commitment to Young People

Leicester, UK – 23rd April 2025

Leicester-based creative youth charity, The Mighty Creatives, was proud to host a special visit from the Mayor of Krefeld, Germany, last weekend as part of a cultural exchange initiative celebrating the long-standing twinning relationship between the two cities and to discuss the challenges facing young people.

The Mayor of Krefeld, Frank Meyer, was accompanied by Krefeld Councillor, Lena Wagner and was welcomed by The Mighty Creatives over the UK Bank Holiday weekend. The visit included a lunch reception in Leicester, generously sponsored by the East Midlands Chamber, which was also attended by CLETA board members Fred and Viv Rankin, John Townsend of East Midlands Chamber and Christopher Mellies, Chairman of Jugendring in Krefeld, amongst other colleagues.

Thanks to the support of Leicester City Football Club, The Mighty Creatives was able to invite Mayor Frank Meyer and Councillor Lena Wagner to attend Leicester City’s Premier League football match at home against Liverpool Football Club.

“This was a fantastic opportunity to engage with international leaders and build meaningful connections beyond borders,” said Dr Nick Owen MBE, CEO of The Mighty Creatives.

“We were honoured to host Mayor Frank Meyer and to continue strengthening the bond between Leicester and Krefeld through the energy and creativity of our youth and culturally-rich cities. It’s been an inspiring exchange of ideas, creativity and culture.”

Krefeld and Leicester have been twinned since 1969, with both cities committed to fostering cultural understanding and educational exchange. This visit marks a renewed focus on youth involvement in international partnerships and supports The Mighty Creatives ongoing partnerships with Krefeld organisations, Werkhaus e.V and Jugendring.
