The Black Lives Matter movement caused societal reflection on the persistence of racism today; we’re continuing to work hard to improve our understanding and practice around this important issue. That’s why we’ve dedicated this year’s campaign to support a project that fights racial injustice. And it’s a project we hope to learn from! The World Reimagined is a ground-breaking national art education project, fighting to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its recurrent impact on all of us.
This year we’re raising awareness of racial justice in the most creative way we know how – through the arts! We’re hoping to raise £5,000 to support the artistic creation for one of ten Globe Sculptures in The World Reimagined art trail across Leicester, one of the most multicultural cities in the UK. Our Globe will be created by local young people and supporting artists, responding to the theme of Still We Rise. The purpose? To recognise and honour those most impacted by the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans through the centuries to the present day.
But we need your help…
The Mighty Challenge 2022 kicks off from 19th July until 5th October. We’re encouraging others to take a vow of silence with us on the 5th October (or any other date between now and then that suits you).
But if you don’t fancy taking a vow of silence, why not commit to another challenge? It can be anything you want: a one-off event, endurance challenge, group, solo – the choice is yours! All you need to do is dream up an activity and fundraise with us. This year, members of The Mighty Creatives’ staff team are participating in the Mighty (UN)Mute challenge. We’re putting ourselves ‘on Mute’ to help show the importance of young people’s voices. In our pledge of silence, we won’t be able to communicate to others throughout the day verbally, by text or email, written notes, or posting on social media. Any slip ups will require a personal donation to the cause!
