This bespoke NSPCC Safeguarding 1 day online training course is aimed at Designated Safeguarding Officers for arts and cultural organisations.

Aim:

To enable participants to become familiar with the role and responsibilities of the designated safeguarding officer and to develop competence and confidence in carrying out this role.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • state their own values regarding abuse and maltreatment and the impact of these on professional practice.
  • decide what steps the organisation needs to take to ensure the safety and welfare of those with whom it has contact
  • state the blocks that inhibit the disclosure of abuse and respond effectively to a someone who does disclose
  • state the blocks to staff reporting concerns and how to overcome these
  • make appropriate decisions about the action to take when informed of concerns, including concerns regarding staff or volunteers
  • state what is likely to happen following a referral to the relevant investigating agencies and what further role they may have
  • demonstrate an awareness of the emotional dimension of safeguarding work and identify a network for personal support

There will also be some specific time to discuss the risks of digital and online engagement with children and young people.

All participants will be requested to complete a pre-course questionnaire to ascertain the needs of the group and ensure the training can be tailored to these as much as possible.
