Join our Youth Board!

Are you aged 16-21 and passionate about the creative industries, arts and culture? Do you want to have your voice heard and make a difference to the lives of children and young people across the East Midlands?

Here at The Mighty Creatives (TMC), we’re a team of creative arts enthusiasts dedicated to transforming the lives of children and young people through creativity, arts and culture. Our mission is simple: we believe that every child and young person should have access to exciting and inspiring creative opportunities – whatever their background.

For TMC to fight for the creative voices of children and young people across the East Midlands meaningfully, it is vital we continue to incorporate the views, ideas, beliefs and opinions of children and young people in the leadership of our charity.

That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of our Youth Board for 16–21-year-olds. Want to know more? Watch the video below presented by Louise Kay, our Youth Programme Coordinator and Emily York, our Youth Programme Manager – or continue reading to find out more!

What is a Youth Board?

Well, as a charity, we have what is called a ‘Board of Trustees’, who are a group of individuals that have overall responsibility for the management of TMC. A bit like how Governors work in schools.

A Youth Board is the equivalent of a Board of Trustees, just youth-led! It provides an opportunity for you to:

  • Be part of and help build a network of likeminded young people across the region.
  • Learn new skills to help you now and in the future.
  • Help create positive community change through arts and culture locally and across the East Midlands… and even wider!
  • Gain invaluable knowledge and experiences to help you towards your next steps in your education, employment and training.
  • Try something new and exciting!

What will I do as part of the Youth Board?

There’s lots of things you can get involved with and it will really be led by you, but here’s some of our ideas so far. As a member of our Youth Board, you will:

  • Help lead TMC’s work and have your say on our next steps and the development of our programmes.
  • Receive regular talks from professional experts across the region from a variety of disciplines to share skills, ask questions, network and receive advice from the real experts.
  • Design, develop and deliver a youth-led conference.
  • Have access to 1:1 and group support/coaching from TMC’s team.
  • Have opportunities to represent TMC at events delivered across the region.
  • Gain vital application and interview skills by sitting on staff interview panels for new positions and grant applications.
  • Receive an National Art Pass, which offers free entry to hundreds of museums, galleries and historic places across the UK as well as 50% off major exhibitions.
  • And lots more!

Most importantly, we want to hear, empower and champion your voices, your ideas and what is important to you.

How and when will the Youth Board meet?

The Youth Board will meet online monthly.

We want our Youth Board to have members from all across the East Midlands, so this is the easiest and most eco-friendly way to meet! However, we are aware of how important meeting face to face is, so there will be opportunities to do this throughout the year. If you need support in accessing online meetings, please let us know how we can help!

This sounds great! How do I get involved?

If this sounds like something you’d like to get involved in, please register your interest by clicking the button below.

If filling out a form isn’t best for you, we are also accepting video and audio applications – simply answer the questions on the form by video or audio and send over to us!

Feel free to get another person to help you with your application if you need a bit of support.

We are accepting applications from across the East Midlands from young people who can commit to the Youth Board.

Deadline for registering interest is: Midday, Wednesday 25th August.
