what’s the project about?

Bullying can be a difficult topic for young people to discuss and challenge.

We were approached by the Early Intervention, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and Inclusion team at Rutland County Council. They wanted to explore the impact of bullying on SEND children and young people, so they asked for our help to ensure youth voice and creativity played a central role in the project.

what happened next?

Collaborating with young people, Rutland County Council and artists, we co-developed creative workshops and activities for schools. Working with artist Mary Bonam, two of our mighty Youth Board members, Janah and Hannah, and also two young people with SEND in Rutland, we delivered two drama workshops for young people at Uppingham Community College.

To build on the workshops, we were asked to develop a longer legacy to the work. This included a video resource to explore some real lived experiences of our young people, alongside resources for teachers to use in the classroom.

why is this project important?

The aim of this work is to champion and celebrate differences while supporting young people to be kinder to one another in the classroom – all through the power of creative practice.
