what did Leicestershire Cares want from the project?

Leicestershire Cares approached us here at TMC, as they wanted to capture the voices, experiences and thoughts of their care-experienced young people.

how was the project delivered?

We commissioned a professional filmmaker to work with Leicestershire Cares’ Joining Up Joining In group of young people to create a change-making video. Speaking directly to those in power through the film, they wanted to create a sense of empathy so that their own lived experiences of the care system would be understood. But they also wanted to make change – the young people wanted to show why experience of care should be recognised as a protected characteristic.

The young people took part in weekly creative workshops with the filmmaker to create the soundtrack, script and visuals of the film.

what positive impact did the project have?

Youth voice sat at the forefront of this project. From the conceptualization to execution, the creation of the film was all driven by the young people. With our strong experience in youth voice practice, we were excited to support the young people on this creative journey. Working with the filmmaker the young people took ownership of the process, ensuring that their perspectives, stories, and experiences were authentically represented.

The project not only empowered the young people to explore their creativity, but also allowed their voices to be heard in a powerful, impactful way that resonates with their peers and broader communities.
