what was the Rutland Family Hub project?

Rutland Family Hub asked us to help them capture the views of the children and young people who engage with their activities – and they wanted to do this through creativity. The project took place between May 2024 and March 2025 and an animation video with an accompanying spoken word piece was chosen to platform the young people’s voices.

what happened next?

We sent a creative filmmaker and spoken word artist to lead four half-day workshops in Rutland with a small group of the young people who had engaged with the provisions offered via the family hub. With creative activities in writing, animation and beyond, each young person was able to find a way to comfortably express their views.

what impact did this project have?

Community hubs offer vital spaces for local people to access a range of services and activities, including inspiring arts and cultural experiences. Sadly, we’ve seen these spaces decline over the last decade. Through this project, and working collaboratively with Rutland, we’ve been able to show the value and importance that spaces like the Rutland Family Hub offer to their local communities. And we’ve done this by amplifying the voices of the very young people who engage with their activities.

“Dear new friend,

Why don’t you come along to the Family Hub?

You will like it here,

I feel safe here,

I feel happy here.”

Young Person [an extract from one of the poems produced during the workshops]
