Without Walls – Samantha’s Blog

As part of a series of blogs from our Youth Board, member Samantha shows us a sneak peek of the Without Walls exhibition and talks more about the process behind the event in September.

Hi, I’m Samantha a TMC Youth Board member, I’ll be writing todays blog post, where I’ll be showing you a sneak peek of the exhibition for the Without Walls event.

But first, a little about me! I’ve just graduated from studying Illustration in Bristol, where for my final degree show I created a children’s book, animation and an immersive VR experience. I love getting myself involved in the art community, where I have been volunteering as part of the TMC Youth Board for about a year now. Through the past year I have found a passion for curating immersive exhibition spaces, where I have been working towards the exhibition for Without Walls.

For the Without Walls exhibition the inspiration sprung from ‘where does a child express their creativity?’. The bedroom! a safe place for a young person to engage in their hobbies and dreams, to create, explore and express themselves.

To create artwork for the exhibition we have produced a series of workshops in schools across the East Midlands. Myself and the youth board working have worked alongside Sian Watson, a local artist to present the workshops. We had children exploring what creativity is, what forms it comes as and most importantly enjoying a day of exploration and creativity to encourage artistic expression.

Through the exhibition we want to portray an explosion of creativity and the arts. We have split the bedroom around the venue, exploring different ideas to take the audience on a journey of a child’s creativity.

‘Explore and Play’ is an area of the exhibition to get the audience to interact with the space and the artwork and to become more than just the audience.

‘Read and Inspire’ is an area of reflection and discover to learn the significance of these workshops. Where you will be able to get cosy quiet spot to look at all the artwork we have curated.

Here is a little sneak peek of some of the sketches towards the exhibition planning. We look forward to seeing you there!
